Reeves: The Process of Buying a Bespoke Suit

The process of buying a bespoke suit may feel daunting at first, but your tailor will help guide you through the 4 major steps.  Reeves offers an exclusive experience for those seeking the very finest in bespoke tailoring. The consultation process is always led personally by David Reeves in an appointment only environment at our showroom in Union Square. No other clients or customers will have access during consultations and fittings. For clients with privacy and security concerns you can rely on our small staff’s discretion at all times. Reeves is proud of its Savile Row lineage and is a leading advocate for the preservation of fine English Tailoring worldwide, as well as in his adopted hometown of New York. Every suit contains around 3000 hand stitches and takes approximately 40 hours of highly skilled labor to complete.

Step 1 - Consultation:
The First Step to a Perfect Bespoke Suit

The first step in the process of buying a bespoke suit from Reeves is the consultation. This is typically a two-hour appointment where you will meet with David to discuss your preferences and requirements. During this consultation, David will easily and informally guide you through the process taking detailed measurements and ask questions about your style preferences, the occasion for which you'll be wearing the suit, and any specific features you'd like included, such as pockets, vents, closeness of fit or shoulder expression. This consultation is crucial to ensuring that the finished suit (or suits) is tailored to your exact specifications.

STEP 2- DRAFTING PATTERN:
CRAFTING THE BLUEPRINT OF YOUR SUIT

Drafting the pattern is a crucial part of creating a bespoke suit at Reeves. David and his assistant will take detailed measurements of the client's body to ensure an accurate and precise pattern, which is then used to guide the construction process. The pattern also allows for customization and personalization of the suit to accommodate specific style preferences. This ensures that every suit is perfectly fitted to the client's body and style, creating a truly unique and personalized garment.

STEP 3- BASTED FITTING:
ENSURING A PERFECT FIT

After the consultation, the next step is the basted fitting. This typically takes around 30 minutes and is where you'll get your first glimpse of your bespoke suit. During the basted fitting, you'll try on a rough version of the suit, which will allow the tailor to make any necessary adjustments to the fit. This is a critical step in the process as it ensures that the suit will fit you perfectly, with no loose or tight areas. David and his assistant will take detailed notes and make any necessary adjustments to the suit to ensure that it fits you not only well but that it

STEP 4- FINAL FITTING AND PICK-UP

The final fitting and pick-up, This is where you'll get to see and try on your finished bespoke suit for the first time. The final fitting typically takes around 30 minutes, during which time David will make any minor adjustments to the suit to ensure that it fits you perfectly. Once David is satisfied with the fit, you'll be able to take your suit home and enjoy wearing it for years to come. Every Reeves suit can be altered by usually by a size “up or down” it is not uncommon for clients to bring back a suit for resizing after several years.
