DAVID REEVES AND THE LAST PILOT
Here is some information about a project I am involved in with Creative Director Ferdinand Van Alphen http://www.linkedin.com/in/ferdinandvanalphen and Cinematographer James Henry http://www.jameshenry.co.uk/
OVERVIEW
Military Chic inspired by British Army, Royal Navy and R.A.F uniforms from the 1900s through to the 1950s The Last Pilot is a luxury menswear brand that draws on the spirit of films such as Where Eagles Dare, Indiana Jones, Inglorious Basterds and Laurence of Arabia as well as British comic books like The Boys own paper, Eagle and Battle.
Designed by David Reeves, David uses his knowledge and experience gained from famous Military tailor Gieves and Hawkes of number 1 Savile Row to put together a smart, casual and functional menswear line of coats, outerwear and shirts.
Last Pilot caters to a need among men to satisfy traditional masculinity. When menswear designers are showing collections with tights and leggings we feel its time to start going in the opposite direction.
Eschewing the emasculation in menswear and fashion magazines our icons are Marlon Brando, Steve Mcqueen and Clint Eastwood. We need our icons. Iconic is important. We argue that masculinity, a real and sincere set of truly male qualities, is nothing to be ashamed of. It is the backbone of male styles not its antithesis, because true male style is based upon substance and character, not simply seams and stitching.
WHO IS THE LAST PILOT?
“Well brought up with classic Schooling The Last Pilot recites as easily from Phasso as from a bottle of good whiskey or blowing smoke from a Romeo y julieta Cigar. In case he is shot down above enemy territory his linguistic skills and cunning acting will help him travel across enemy lines.“
_Ferdanand Van Alphen creative director on The Last Pilot personified
Deceiving, cunning, eccentric and elegant. Funny and wicked at the same time. A rare Royal appearance that exudes confidence, intellect and danger The last pilots real world counterpart would be Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond who felt that Sean Connery was not like Bond enough because he had very little in common with the man he was based on; Fleming himself. Actor Peter O Toole Star of Laurence of Arabia and Night of the Generals provides a visual cue to the look of the Last Pilot.
